NGHC believes community outreach and education are essential components in meeting our mission. NGHC has developed a comprehensive education and outreach program which includes ongoing groups for males and females designed to educate and show alternatives to early parenting, classroom presentations on reproductive health topics such as birth control and sexually transmitted infections, and outreach through health fairs and community events.

New Generation Health Center’s TeenSMART Outreach Program provides presentations to classrooms and community youth groups at no cost. These presentations can be one-time sessions, or can be offered as a series of on-going presentations. Available presentations include:

* Values: Clarifying your personal values
* Avoiding High Risk Situations
* Female and Male Anatomy
* Not Having Sex: learning about abstinence
* Sexually Transmitted Infections
* Birth Control Methods
* Getting and Using Protection
* Understanding HIV and AIDS
* Making Sexual Decisions
* Developing and Using Condom Skills
* Learning and Practicing Assertive Communication Skills

To schedule a presentation, contact Tino Ratliff, TeenSMART Outreach Coordinator at 415-514-1578.

New Generation Health Center also offers ongoing groups for youth that are designed to educate participants about reproductive health and avoiding unintended pregnancy and STIs. These groups are offered for young men and women, usually within middle or high schools during the school day or after school hours. For middle school groups, sessions often involves a lesson on a family planning related topic followed by fun activities, often art projects designed to reinforce the health information provided. For high school groups, our focus is on training participants to be peer health educators.

For additional information on New Generation’s ongoing groups for youth, contact Anita Lopez, Counseling and Outreach Manager, at 415-502-2524.
